A New Year

January 4th, 2008

First, let me introduce myself. My name is Tammy Daniels and I’m the managing editor of iBerkshires.

I joined iBerkshires about six months ago, drawn to the potential of cyberspace, the instantaneous transmission of information to near and far.

What I didn’t realize is how much hard work and planning goes into putting that news at the click of your mouse. Some things can be done quickly, others take time because everything you do is connected to something else. It takes awhile to shake the bugs out.

You probably saw some of what we’ve been doing over the last few months, including a page to celebrate the fall foliage season and a site for voters to find candidate biographies, polling places, interviews and stories about last November’s election.

Those were small steps to a bigger overhaul of iBerkshires in the coming months. As always, we’re looking for input from our readers. We’ve had a survey posted on our front page for a couple weeks now. Take time to go through it and let us know what you’d like to see on iBerkshires.

Some of our readers have asked for more editorial content. For now, this blog will have to do. I’ll use it to post opinions, updates on our Web site and whatever comes to mind.

What’s on my mind today? My current pet peeve:

People who post negative comments on our stories without giving a reason. One post in particular really bugs me. We published our top 10 iBerkshire stories for the year and asked if we had left anything out. A reader calls them fluff - but declines to say what wouldn’t be fluff. (For the record, IMHO none of our stories were fluff.)

You know who you are.

Keep posted.
