Candied iron? Ironed candy?

September 21st, 2005

Six years!

Tomorrow is our sixth wedding anniversary!

Sixth! One-two-three-four-five-SIXTH! Only the finest of exclamation points will do!

Need your help here, Creative Readers. The traditional gift for the sixth anniversary is either candy or iron. David and I have always played by the traditional gifting anniversary rules, but we’re both feeling a little thick around the middle this year. And a box of dietetic chocolates (or a bottle of iron pills) doesn’t quite say You rock my world.

Any thoughts?

P.S. Nope, the cranberry storm door is not made of iron.

Chocolates on the pillow at the Iron Horse Bed and Breakfast?

    Ooh, that’s GOOD.

    Can I borrow $300?

Hmmmm…the storm door you covet isn’t made of iron, is it? “Cranberry” could probably fit in with the candy theme.

    internet gift suggestions say:
The perfect wedding anniversary present for year six might be based on traditional gifts such as candy or iron, or on the modern alternative of

Wood is always a welcome gift.

the modern alternative is wood…sorry I mucked up the last post.

Bite your tongue! Modern would be CHEATING. We are traditionalists. Only in this arena, of course.

(Actually, last year’s traditional was wood.)

A fancy magnetic compass (containing magnetized IRON!, for a guy who likes to hike and camp.)

An aluminum canoe with “IRON MAN” stencilled on the side.

    An iron. (Duh!)

A ticket to the next Iron Chef competition.

A book of O. Henry short stories. (Loaded with IRONY, get it?)

A jar of choclate sauce to be used as body paint! (I can’t believe I just wrote that. I’m outta here.)

Hey, not bad, not bad at all! Even the chocolate body paint, although I reserve the right to pretend that my father was not the one to suggest it to me. Unless you want to pay for the extra therapy, Pater.

If he a golfer? With iron and candy I’d say:

For him: a new 5 iron.

For her: a merry widow. (though that’s kinda for him too.)

Have a supper of lentils, with a spinach salad. Truffles for dessert.

Rent a few Jeremy Irons movies.

I don’t know, seems this tradition would have been more helpful when more things were still made out of iron.

A few ideas, some better than others:
    - cast iron skillet or enameled pot (a future heirloom)
    - cast iron teapot (little Japanese kind w/ 2 matching cups)
    - bell (Ben’s suggestion)
    - cast iron fireplace accoutrements
    - wrought iron bench (for cuddling outdoors)
    - lucky horse shoe
    - iron “tavern puzzle”

    Happy anniversary!

Happy Anniversary to Dave and Jen! May you both have many more years of happiness and dog poop.

OK, not so much on the dog poop.

And no that is not the six year gift!

Best wishes to you both on your anniversary, Jenn! Expanding waistlines or not, a box of six truffles is perfect to share.

    Happy Anniversary.

May I suggest (before Spot the Wonder dog does) that no home is complete without wrought iron accessories such as these:
